I see myself as a Tele man with a few other things on the side”, Pellie chuckled, “I like to play various kinds of guitars, but I knew I wanted a Tele before I bought my first electric guitar. Then I bought one and knew I was right. The players I was interested in at the time like Rick Parfitt and Keith Richards were heavy Tele users and I followed suit. To me, there is nothing that would ever replace “Frank”, my #1 Tele. I have another couple, too, for other tunings and string guages but Frank is the finest instrument I’ve ever played.”.

Beside Frank, Woody (an extensively modified Tele strapped with tramlines) and a 60th anniversary, Pellie also plays a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Strat nicknamed Steve and a Red Special clone by Brian May Guitars. “For the acoustic parts, I sometimes borrow Ody’s western guitar. It has a really unique sound that I like and it records a lot better than my battered old Yamaha!”. The APX-500 was bought cheap as a fix-up job and has been in use since the initial repairs were conducted. “I also use a ~1973 Hofner 12-string which is really nice. It’s funny how those 12-strings are hardly ever talked about, even though they were some of Hofners best in my opinion”, he said.

He also plays a cheap Fazley bass guitar through a JTM45. “Well, after failing to get a bass player onboard I got a bit tired of faking things on a Tele or sequencing stuff digitally. I caved and started to play bass, too – it’s actually more fun than I thought.”.
